Of all people in education, I am one who loves someone who takes leaps and bounds. I know not everyone functions this way. Baby steps, although may be very small, are still steps in the right direction. With each initiative, there are different steps that may be more appropriate than others. This post will outline some basic baby steps that will help anybody get off to a good start. - Sign into Google Chrome
- Working in the cloud helps you to be mobile. If you save files, bookmarks, or management in the cloud, you can access it from anything, anywhere. I would recommend you begin by signing into Google Chrome and getting familiar with the bookmarking feature. This step is small, but will help you to realize the power in working in the cloud.
- Set Classroom Routines for Technology
- Whether you have classroom devices or cart devices, your students need to know how to use them appropriately. a routine could be:
- Student Jobs - Hand out, Plug in...
- Tech Moments in the morning
- Contract for Help from techy students or specialists
- Establishing the use of tech in specific subjects
- Convert Newsletters to PDF's
- This may seem like a silly point, but the power in this can be irreplaceable. Mobile devices (not including a surface) do not have Microsoft word. By converting your Microsoft Word files into a PDF before uploading it to your website allows parents to open them on their phones, iPads, along with their home computers. Making this conversion a habit allows parents to be connected to your students classroom like never before.
- Connect in a Digital Way
- Upload a picture from a mobile device, write a post on your phone and publish it on your computer respond to a parent or student questions on your mobile device. These are clear example of how you can transform your connection with your students, parents, and colleagues. Being available 24/7 is a demand of being a sound 21st century educator.
