1 to 1 initiatives are amazing times for learning from all parties. Teachers need to learn how to manage their classroom differently and teach through new modes. Students are provided with powerful devices that in many cases, they are already expert in using them. This post will outline some of my tips to help get ready for this shift.


  • Content
    • Textbooks, Power Points, and Lecturing can go. Use a tool like Liber.io to create differentiated learning modules to digitally hand out work to your students. Schoology in your landing pad hosting discussions, resources, and assignments. 
  • Room Organization
    • If you did the above task, you now have the ability to flex your room however you so choose. Build in large, real life projects and hook students by their interest in topics. 
  • Management
    • There are countless methods for dealing with the behaviors that will come up with a 1 to 1 initiative. You need to find what fits you  best as a teacher. Here is a post of some suggestions Classroom Management 1 - 1
  • Conversion
    • Worksheets and packets do not need to be printed! Convert them to a PDF and hand them out to students. They can mark them up with Notability or Skitch and still have the ability to turn them in to your through Schoology.
  • Be Different
    • This is a time to redefine you, and your teaching in your classroom. Use this first year to find what works and what doesn't. Keep in mind that we need to get these students ready for their futures, not our past.
